Q. What happens during the first session?

A. The first session we will explore what you consider to be the identified problem and how it is impacting your life. I’m also interested in what changes you want to achieve. I find it helpful to hear about what you have tried that didn’t work for you and what you consider to be the challenges that prevent you from reaching your goals.

Your first session provides us with the opportunity to confirm that my approach is a ‘fit’ for you. An important component of therapy for many clients is the ability to feel safe, respected and understood by the therapist. After gathering some basic information from you that informs me about your identified issue from a holistic perspective, we develop a treatment plan exploring the best way for you to move forward to accomplish your desired changes.

Q. How long does counselling take?

A. The length of time counselling takes varies with each individual and is dependent on your specific needs and identified goals. Some clients have found that attending only a few sessions provided them with sufficient increased awareness and shift in perspective of their issue to move forward on their own. Whereas others have found they were faced with more challenging life long and sometimes even debilitating beliefs and/or experiences that required much longer term support and/or skill development.

Some clients have attended weekly or even twice weekly when they felt the consistent support was necessary while others may continue with a ‘tune up’ session every two to three weeks or once a month as they feel the need.

Together we will create a schedule that works for you and supports you to reach your desired goals.
